Proximity Magazine Issue 010 is themed ‘Mutualisms’ This guest edited edition was organized by Lise Haller Baggesen and Kirsten Leenaars who initiated the collaborative curatorial project called ‘Mutualisms’ last year at the Co-Prosperity Sphere.The show explored the ways in which networks of friendship and artistic collaboration can be used as a model for curating. The exhibition looked into artistic strategies for finding hospitality and exchange in the context of contemporary art practices as well our own social domain. Eight Dutch and eight American artists/artist duos were paired and worked together to create a collaborative presentation of their works. Proximity’s Mutualisms issue is an extension of the show as well as a document proposing further models for collaboration. PMI is a non-profit 501(c) 3 community based, art & culture organization located in the neighborhood of Bridgeport. Their mission is to create, incubate and sustain innovative cultural programming through the production of socially engaged projects, festivals, spaces, exhibitions, and media. PMI has published several periodicals including Proximity Magazine, the international arts and culture journal, as well as Lumpen magazine, Materiel Magazine, and Mash Tun Journal. Their main exhibition facility is the experimental cultural center, Co-Prosperity: a 5,000 + sq ft visual arts and performance space that is also home to Lumpen Radio WPLN/105.5 FM. The Buddy store is the newest arm of the PMI non-profit.
