This offset print is based on a photograph from my family's archive, originally taken by my grandfather while he was living in the United States. He frequently documented his life and rituals in America and mailed these photographs back to relatives in Vietnam, offering them a view into his new life abroad. For my family members who had never experienced life in the United States, at the time, an ordinary activity like a trip to the laundromat became a fascinating moment and topic of conversation.
