A white flag for your antenna!

Aay Preston-Myint is an artist, publisher, and educator working in the San Francisco Bay Area, after several years building a career and community in Chicago, Illinois. His practice employs both visual and collaborative strategies to investigate memory and kinship, often within the specific context of queer community and history. In addition to his studio work, he is a founder of No Coast, an artist partnership that prints and distributes affordable contemporary artwork, is co-director of the Chicago Art Book Fair, and has served as a DJ and organizer for Chances Dances, a party supporting and showcasing the work of queer artists in Chicago. He is currently the Program Manager at Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, California, a member of the studio collective Real Time and Space in Oakland, and a Fellow at the Kala Art Institute in Berkeley.

Trunk Show

TRUNK SHOW was a mobile exhibition space usually located in Chicago from 2013 to 2016. For the three years that the project ran, three dozen artists and artist groups were commissioned to design limited edition bumper stickers which lived, rode along with and helped propel a medium-beat-up forest green 1999 Ford Taurus owned by Raven Falquez Munsell and Jesse Malmed. Stickers were available for purchase cheaply online (a few still are!), from the trunk and by subscription. Openings followed a nomadic, symbiotic logic and included a public affixing, conceptual catering and paired playlists. After the car’s untimely end (and its subsequent donation to its favorite local radio station) a book commemorating the project was released, a few copies of which remain (along whispers of a reprint) as might a bootleg for tale-gaters and meaning-traffickers on the lookout.
