Rana Huwais
(West Town)
Rana Huwais is a Syrian-American printmaker, ceramicist, writer, and fiber artist working out of West Town. She makes work rooted in tenderness, nostalgia, and oftentimes humor of the communities she grew up in, and a reclaiming of joy and whimsy in the Arab spaces not yet embraced in popular culture. She seeks to create pieces that will be held and felt: a print that guards one’s room while they are away, a pot that holds a meal cooked with a family recipe, or a woven textile that will keep one’s feet warm---they're alive with and within us.
