Lori Elaine Lightfoot (born August 4, 1962) is an American politician and lawyer serving as 56th mayor of Chicago since May 2019.
Lightfoot is the first openly gay African-American woman to be elected mayor of a major city in the United States. She is the first openly gay person and first openly LGBT person, the first African-American woman, the second woman (after Jane Byrne) and only the second African-American (after Harold Washington) to be elected mayor of Chicago.
