Pat Gordon is a Chicago-based potter with a passion for natural forms and expressive human and animal characters. Born in South Africa, she was exposed to ceramics at a young age through her father's ceramics business he started after the World War II. At 80 years old, she still works on her ceramics six days a week at Lill Street Art Center. Gordon uses both the wheel and many different hand-building techniques. She likes to experiment with terra cotta, porcelain, and "B" clays. Her surface work includes underglaze painting, sgraffito, and soda firing. Gordon focuses on creating decorated functional items, including bowls, platters, and vases. She sells her pieces out of her home shop in Evanston, Illinois, as well as local shops and art shows.
