Punta Diamante was founded by Antonio Cano and Alberto Torres in Mexico City in 2010; from that moment, the project’s gestation process involved the participation of multiple musicians until 2018, when they consolidated the current line-up from other local bands and ensembles such as Maguila (Elias Ramirez, Emiliano Mendoza, Emiliano Ramirez) Son De La Calle (Vladimir Tovar), Los Hijos De Chunga (Vladimir Aranda, Emiliano Mendoza), Nabuzenku (Rodrigo De Leo), Ensamble Pullock (Santiago Juarez) and Turbochango (David Contreras). The band’s first studio LP AFRODELIA refers to the concept they chose to describe their music: a mixture of various musical roots such as afrobeat, funk, free jazz, Afro-caribbean rhythms and psychedelic rock. Punta Diamante is a ritual of sound in which time and space fuse to create a mystic atmosphere for the audience.

Sonorama
(Pilsen/ Little Village)

Sonorama is a Chicago-based DJ collective that is known for energizing dance floors and sound waves with a unique blend of vintage Latin sounds. Founded in 2010 by Charly Garcia and brothers Edgar and Marlowe Baca, Sonorama is a group of insatiable diggers and lovers of music on vinyl. In early 2015 the trio launched the debut of Sonorama Discos, marking their interest in seeking and releasing contemporary bands and music with similar leanings to Latin America’s sonic past and an ear for fresh approaches to that tradition. When the guys aren’t busy DJing an event, you can catch their selections via podcasts, the occasional playlist or you might just run into them at your local record store.
